Coined by Marcel Duchamp in 1916, Readymade is a term used to describe mass-produced objects isolated from their intended use and elevated to the status of art.
In Hong Kong, city workers leave cleaning implements to dry on the streets or back alleys, lodged in between drain pipes and building facades, leaning on pedestrian guardrails or hanging from strings extended from air conditioners. Detached from their purpose, turned into accidental installations, these humble objects seem like works of art echoing Duchamp’s Readymades.

This is where Julie Progin sourced from to create her Ready-made Bouquet print series where mundane commodities such as mops, or cleaning gloves are depicted for their formal qualities and transformed into blooming bouquets arranged in vases painted decorated with longevity patterns.
