Throughout her work, Julie Progin highlights the formal qualities of everyday objects found within the urban context of Hong Kong.
Chairs, stools, or tables that are cobbled together from discarded objects and waste materials are a common sight on the streets and back alleys of Hong Kong.
Julie Progin records these improvised creations—she collects images of mundane and overlooked items and documents how they are used, adapted, or transformed in daily life.
Julie Progin shares, “Out walking in the city I often see objects that are stripped of their intended function and either repurposed or turned into accidental installations. This is where I sourced from to create Balancing Act where an amalgamation of objects arranged in a pyramidal structure alludes to these impromptu makeshift sculptures.”
